As a mom, you remember things. You’re baby’s first bath, his first words, and obviously, his first gaze, and when you first set eyes on him. But, what we don’t know, and indeed have no way of knowing, is when the baby’s laid his eyes on you, the mom, for the first time. But something incredible happened in Seattle. When one particular baby who had a rare eye disorder, which affected his vision, first cast his little eyes on his mom, it was to become a moment that would evoke the collective sighs of several parents in the world.
Leopold Wilbur Reppond, or Leo, has a congenital disorder, ‘oculocutaneous albinism’. The disorder typically affects an individual’s hair, eye color, skin, and more often than not, the vision. In little Leo’s case, he couldn’t see anything without any assistance.
It was a rather horrible stroke of luck, and Leo’s parents David and Erin were, understandably, quite disheartened with his condition. But, like a Messiah that he is, Kenneth Wright, a Los Angeles pediatric ophthalmologist took on the challenge of restoring Leo’s sight.
So, he designed a custom pair of glasses for Leo. What’s more, he baby-proofed the glasses as well. The glasses don’t have any sharp edges, hinges or screws – a smart doctor, isn’t it? The frame is constrcuted using rubber, but the lenses are quite normal, and just like an ordinary pair.
Leo’s parents were so excited about him being able to see, they decided to throw a little party and have their close friends and family around when Leo first wore his specially-designed glasses. Being a filmmaker David, predictably, captured the entire moment on a home video.
All we can say is this is an overdose of cuteness. And, David attests. He says that it was tough for him to hold the camera steady when little Leo first looked at his momma, and cooed in delight.
We’re sure you will agree. Here is the heartwarming video:
