6 Gifts I Never Want People To Buy For My Young Daughter

Don’t get me wrong, I love that my child was spoiled with gifts on her birthday. She is one lucky girl to have received so many gifts from her aunts, neighbors, and friends. I especially loved that she got a few that would serve a purpose such as a DIY kit, books, and puzzles. These are gifts that would keep her busy, entertained, and even help her learn something new. But hey, gifts necessarily don’t have to serve a purpose. And ain’t nobody got a Ph.D. in finding the perfect gift for kids. But there were a few gifts this year that definitely raised an eyebrow, especially for a 6-year-old girl. Here are 6 gifts that I don’t want people to buy for a young girl. (PS: It’s just my opinion)

1. A Makeup Kit

A complete makeup set may not be an ideal gift option for a young child. No doubt, it would get them very excited and it would probably be on their top 3 gifts. Personally, a sparkly lip gloss would have been fine but a full-fledged makeup kit is not what my child needs at her age since I don’t want her to be obsessed with putting on makeup so young. I have caught my kid sneaking into my room and using Mommy’s lipstick and eye shadow on a few occasions, but now that she has a makeup kit of her own, who’s going to convince her that she can’t use it every time?

2. Unsuitable Footwear

A 2-inch heel may not be so inappropriate for an older child, but for a 6-year-old? I don’t think so. The last thing she needs is footwear with narrow heels unless you are going to present there to deal with the repercussions. Imagine her walking up a flight of stairs or running on a rocky ground. So, heels are definitely a big NO from my side!

3. Pets

A pet may seem like a cool gift idea. But this option should be reserved for the parents of the child. Whether you heard them asking for a pet or if you thought it’d be a cool idea to gift them one, it’s too big a risk. It’s a huge responsibility and you don’t want the parents worrying about what to do with the pet in case the child is not loving it. Especially if you got her a lizard-like creature.

4. Workout Gear

Now I don’t know if it was meant for the child or the mommy. But in either case, gifting someone a workout gear is a tad bit insensitive. Are you insinuating that I need to lose a few pounds? Or worse, my child does. So, unless you heard from the person themselves that she wants a gym gear or wishes to start working out, don’t even think about it.

5. String Bikini

Swimsuits are a great gift option for kids for summers, beach days, and even swim lessons. And frankly, there’s no such thing as too many swimsuits. What I don’t want is my little girl rocking a string bikini looking like a swimsuit model for a Playboy cover or Victoria’s Secret ad. Because let’s face it, string bikinis also mean double the amount of sunscreen.

6. Selfie-Mic Music Set

A selfie-mic music set is similar to an extended selfie stick, the only difference being it comes with a microphone and earpiece and allows you to attach it to your mobile phone to record a solo-music video. A 6-year-old doesn’t need another gadget that makes her the center of attention and gives rise to more self-obsession. Plus, my kid doesn’t own a mobile phone. Which means she will have to use mine every time she needs to use the set. Sorry, not gonna happen!

I know it’s not easy to buy a gift, especially if you’re not a parent and have no clue what would be the right buy for a young girl. But no mom wants to play the bag guy on her child’s birthday by refusing a gift that they are excited about and is adamant on using.
