7 Things To Do Once Your Baby Starts Crawling

Your baby grows faster than you’d ever imagined. They are always a baby to you, even when they have babies of their own. The first rolling over, crawling, walking, and talking are some of the most memorable baby growth milestones. As parents, we do everything to make our baby’s growth the healthiest and the safest. If your baby is almost close to crawling or if he/she has started crawling already, here are some of the most important things that you need to take care of:

1) Baby Proofing Your House

Now that your baby can move around, make sure that nothing that can be ingested is lying around your place. Anything that can be toppled or that’s sharp should be removed from the baby’s reach. Make sure that your baby doesn’t get near the stairs – both climbing up as well as climbing down. You can baby proof the stairs using a small gate.

2) Beware Of House Lizard Droppings

House lizards are pretty common in many places, especially in India. They might not be very harmful, but their droppings are. Your baby is finally getting the freedom to move around and explore. They would want to see, touch, and taste most of the things they come across.

3) Click A Lot Of Pictures

Your baby started crawling! This happens only once in their life and you’ve got to capture the precious moments that follow. You can either hire a professional photographer or you can use a good camera to click your baby’s pictures by yourself. You don’t need to buy a DSLR always, you can use a good mobile phone camera.

4) Encourage Your Baby To Explore

This is the time when your baby grows physically as well as mentally, which is why you need to make sure that they have the room to explore. Also, you can give your baby colorful toys and use them to make the baby crawl towards them.

5) Ensure That The Crib Is Safe For A Toddler

When your baby starts crawling, there are chances that he/she will try to climb outside the crib. If the baby attempts to climb out of the crib before the right age, there are chances that they may hurt themselves. To avoid this, make sure that the crib of your baby is tall enough and doesn’t have very wide gaps in between so that they can squeeze themselves out.

6) Try To Help Your Baby Walk

After the baby starts crawling, the next stage is walking, and they need you to help them through this stage. You can hold your baby’s hands when they try to stand up and walk. Make sure that there aren’t many things around that your baby might fall on and get hurt.

7) Mop Your Floor And Dust Your Mats Every Day

Your baby is crawling everywhere, and they don’t know what’s clean and what’s dirty. Floor mats can contain dust and dirt more than any other part of your house. Do not let your baby crawl on them unless they are completely clean. Stick to cloth mats so that you can wash them once in two or three days without much trouble.

Apart from making sure that the place is clean and safe for your baby to crawl, you can do certain things to make your baby’s body stronger. If you live in a place that is humid, your baby is more likely to sweat more once all the crawling begins. To avoid infections, you can bathe your baby on alternate days and the rest of the time use a wet washcloth to wipe the body clean. Use good baby powder to keep the baby’s body clean without letting it get into his/her nose.

Be careful when you use baby lotion right before you put your baby down on the floor for the crawling fun. If your baby’s palms and knees have a lotion that hasn’t been absorbed by the skin yet, there are chances of slipping and getting hurt. Hence, it is a great idea to apply lotion on your baby’s skin at least an hour before he/she starts crawling.
