Since the dawn of time, human beings have waxed lyrical on the magical substance that is breast milk, and termed it ‘liquid gold’. This perfect blend of all things good, in terms of nutrition and immunity, has kept mankind in wonder for ages. It’s no wonder that a shocking video which happens to capture the magnified view of this marveling substance has garnered so much attention and piqued the interest of even the most dispassionate and indifferent of souls.

In the 21st century, it’s widely acknowledged and verified by countless medical studies that breast milk has a myriad of extraordinary benefits, not only for babies but also for nursing mothers.

From containing antibodies that aid your baby in tackling and keeping various bacteria and viruses at bay, lowering your child’s risk of procuring allergies, asthma, respiratory ailments, bouts of diarrhea and ear infection to helping mommies lose those post pregnancy pounds quicker and even lowering their own risk for contracting cardiovascular diseases as well as breast cancer in the future – breast milk is credited with many good things!

But did you know that breast milk, besides its innumerable benefits, is actually rather visually fascinating and beautiful by itself? The following video, uploaded by Jansen Howard, gives you a rare close up of breast milk and, quite understandably, the internet has gone bananas over this now viral clip!

Howard, a 27-year-old mother and resident of Colorado Springs, happened to be curious about breast milk just as any new mommy. But she decided to explore her curiosity by placing a drop of the breast milk under her father’s microscope.

The visual she obtained was one she knew she had to share with the world! Check out the 30-second video uploaded by Howard on Facebook:

The online video has been viewed a whopping million plus times and earned over 2,000 comments and 13,000 plus shares! Howard captioned her amazement at her discovery: “You guys… this is SO COOL!!!!!!!! this is the living liquid gold we call breast milk in motion!!!! My dad is a blood microscopist, and this is a single drop of my breast milk under his microscope!!!! It’s miraculous, and it’s ALIVE tailored to my babies needs at this moment!!!! Absolutely amazing!!!”

Howard happened to have access to her father’s equipment. Yet what exactly drew Howard to scrutinize her very own breast milk?

“It started out of curiosity. My daughter had a cold and I heard that your breast milk tailors antibodies and actually changes composition based on what your baby needs. I was reading an article while nursing on how there are up to a million white blood cells in each drop of breast milk,” says Howard. “It was just so beautiful. The video doesn’t even capture all of the colors … purples, greens … a beautiful mix of shiny, colorful globs.”

It certainly is and we very well agree. To imagine we always considered breast milk, well, white! As an artist and mother Howard claims she felt a “strong pull to provide a service for other mothers by memorializing their memories” as the bond between a nursing mother and her child is something that can’t be captured by mere words, hence art (or in this case visual media) came to her rescue.

Well said Howard; you’re absolutely right! Apparently, breastfeeding isn’t only spiritually beautiful but also visually mesmerizing… and science seems to validate this.
