9 Things You Can Relate To If You Have An Indian Mother

Mothers—ah, what a blessing in disguise! Sure, sometimes they can get on our nerves but deep down we all know that they always wish the best for us. Mothers are universally known as caregivers and nurturers. They have a set of traits that are common to mothers all over the world and there is no denying that. But if you have an Indian mother, it’s a whole other ball game. Because of the rich culture and unique set of values that brown people are exposed to, Indian mothers somehow manage to defy logic in everything they say and do but almost always get their way. You might be trying to lose weight to get that perfect summer bod but if your mother is around, it’s nearly impossible. You would have probably lost a kilo or two but for your desi mum, that is equivalent to losing 10 kilos. So what does she do? She goes out of her way to feed you rich tasty foods that you just cannot resist and now you’ve gained more weight. But maa, what about my summer bod?

2. Lauki = Life

What is it about lauki that makes mums get so excited? Indian mothers are the only ones who have been let in on the magical powers of this boring vegetable. Eating the bottle gourd a.k.a lauki apparently has the ability to bring you tons of achievements in life. Yeh kya logic hai, maa?

3. Missed Calls

Indian moms have no chill when it comes to calls. They call you once and if you do not answer it immediately, they call you 18 times. You’re probably taking a shower or taking a nap after a couple of drinks. But what does your mom assume? That you’re dead or you’ve been kidnapped. *facepalm*

4. Early Bird

It doesn’t matter what time you go to sleep at night. Indian mothers only care about what time you wake up because according to them if you don’t wake up early, you are bringing bad luck to the house.

5. Tupperware Love

Haven’t we all wondered why they love their Tupperware containers so much? If you happen to lose a Tupperware dabba, be sure to hear about it for the rest of your life. It’s the only thing she loves more than her children and if you’re a desi kid you know exactly what I’m talking about.

6. Round Rotis

You might have two degrees or even a high paying job, but if you don’t know how to make round rotis, is it even worth it? Indian mothers are obsessed with round rotis and will ensure you are reminded of its importance every chance they get.

7. Whatsapp Picture

As a desi kid, you’ve probably told your mother that “he’s just a friend” more than once. The minute you put a picture with a guy as your Whatsapp DP, your mother will tell you to change it. Not because she doesn’t believe that he’s your friend, but what will your aunts say?

8. Marriage

When you cross the age of 25 and say you don’t want to get married anytime soon, your mom will play every card in her sleeve to make you change your mind. She even goes to the extent of saying that it’s her dying wish to see you married. Calm down mom, you’re not going anywhere anytime soon.

9. Digital Hatred

Indian mothers love to blame one thing – your phone! You sleep less or oversleep, eat less or overeat, lose weight or gain weight, everything that happens to you is because you are on your phone all day. There might be no logic to anything she says, but you cannot argue with her because your mother is always right. *rolls eyes*

With all this being said, you also know that she’s the one person who will stand by you no matter what. Your mother might say a lot of things to you but if anyone else utters a slight word against you, she will instantly protect you and tell them to shut up with no hesitation. What are some of the things your mother says to you that defies all logic? Comment below and let us know.
