9 Reasons Why It’s Okay Not To Have Kids

Let’s just start by stating how grateful we are to be born in a society with a broad mentality. Imagine being born in the 80s and then announcing to your joint family that you don’t want to have kids after marriage! The discussion of not opting for kids is always followed by family drama, dropping a glass of water in shock, and tears (mostly crocodile). Luckily, now dreams don’t circle around finding a suitable match and settling down with a kid. In fact, the whole definition of settling down has changed. We applaud all the families for having kids and parenting them well; however, not everyone dreams about being a parent and taking care of their kids. If you have given a thought to not having kids, here are a few reasons why it is a perfect plan.

1. Kids Are Expensive

People who have children pinch a hole in their pocket to make ends meet. If you have dreams of getting a house or a car, you might not be able to do that for a long, long time! The moment you get pregnant, the vaccinations, checkups, and medicines will cost a handsome sum of money, let alone the delivery. And you can only imagine the expenses after the child is born.

2. You Can Travel The World

It’s true you can travel the world with your kids as well, but it’s not the same as just traveling with your partner. You don’t have to be worried about them constantly or take care of their feeding time, sleep time, and what food they would like. You can live life on your terms, not to mention staying up late for parties!

3. You Get To Be The Fun Aunt

Just because you do not have kids does not mean you don’t like kids. There will always be kids around you, and you can be the cool aunt. The best part is, you don’t need to be the police who has to force them to eat broccoli or keep them away from treats. You are the one who gets to take them shopping, and they absolutely love you.

4. Giving Birth Is No Joke

Be it a standard delivery or C-section, both are nightmares to being with. And not that you can get rest to recover after the surgery; you are expected to take care of your baby even when you are highly drugged. The pain is real, and it stays with you for months. So if you want to get out of the mommy program, this is a no judgment zone.

5. You Enjoy Freedom

Having a child does curb your freedom to a large extent. You can no longer spend ‘me time’, or indulge in hobbies. You will have to time yourself in the washroom and your lunchtime to ensure you are available when your child needs you. As long as you prioritize yourself, it’s better not to have a kid of your own.

Honestly, we barely survive the pollution, lack of fresh air, shortage of land and water. It would not be fair to bring a child into the world when you are unsure what life your little one will have in the future.

7. You Love Sleep

You can talk to any parent, and they will tell you how they don’t remember the last time they slept undisturbed. Moms spend the whole night nursing their baby, and for some moms, this process goes on till they are toddlers. So if you are a person who needs nothing more than 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, we suggest you don’t go for having a baby any sooner.

8. You Don’t Enjoy Motherhood

Honestly, motherhood does not come naturally to every woman. There is nothing to be ashamed about, and it does not make you any less of a woman. It is important to be true to yourself and do what you are really good at. You might be a better mom to a dog, and you can always adopt a stray and give them a good life instead.

9. It’s A Huge Responsibility

When you have a child, it is your responsibility to teach them morals, virtues, and the importance of these things in life. You also have to make sure they are happy and well-adjusted. Taking on the role of a parent comes with a lot of weight that you might not be ready to carry.

Being a parent takes a huge chunk of you, and even though it feels rewarding to have kids who make you smile, it is not something you can pull off just by walking through it. Enjoying your life without opting for a baby helps you explore your life and only strengthens your bond. You can build new hobbies and even learn things together to make life enjoyable.
