It’s your baby’s first Diwali, and while you’re excited for them, it might be too much too soon for your little one. Here are a few things to keep in mind while celebrating your baby’s first Diwali:

Don’t Mess With The Routine

Your baby took a while to adjust to the routine you carefully planned out. Every activity is planned and scheduled for them, and it’s best not to change that. Feed, bathe and put your baby to sleep during the same time you do on other days. Changing their schedule may make them cranky and irritable.

Limit Interaction With Strangers

Several guests might be walking in and out of your house during the festival but ensure that not too many interact with your baby. Seeing too many unfamiliar faces might scare your baby or make them uncomfortable. Babies might like to be admired, carried, hugged, and cuddled but not from strangers.

Stick To Comfort Wear

Festive wear tends to be uncomfortable and can irritate your baby’s skin. You might be tempted to dress them up in elegant attire, but it’s best to stick to comfortable clothing. The best material for a baby’s sensitive skin is cotton. Beautiful sherwanis and lehengas are available in cotton, so you don’t have to compromise on the ethnic attire.

Watch What Your Baby Consumes

There will be loads of food and sweets in your house, and they might not all be healthy. Deep-fried snacks, sweets with tons of ghee and sugar, and other munchies are part and parcel of Diwali. Ensure that your baby is not overfed these unhealthy foods and keep them away from deep-fried foods and sweets.

Shield Your Baby From Loud Noises

Loud noises from the sound of crackers bursting will be too much for your baby to handle. It might even scare them, leading to a crying jag. Protect your little one from loud sounds and keep them away from crackers. You could also use earmuffs to shield them from explosive sounds.

Use Safe Decorations

Diwali is incomplete without decorations but with a baby around, be sure to keep them safe and eco-friendly. Some flowers can trigger allergic reactions in babies and cause respiratory problems. Keep your little one away from lamps, electric lights, and anything that can potentially harm them. The last thing you want is your baby to be injured by burns or shocks.

Keep Your Home Pollution Free

Several states in India have banned crackers to control pollution levels and as a safety precaution during the pandemic. However, if you are using certain pollutants to celebrate the festival, keep your baby far from it. Ensure that your house is pollution-free so that your baby does not inhale harmful smoke.

Don’t Leave Your Baby Unattended

It’s possible to get carried away with the festivities that you lose sight of your baby for a while. But because of the fire and smoke that are around your home, leaving your baby unattended, even if it’s just for a while, could be dangerous. If you need a small break and want to step outside, hand over your baby to a trusted family member or friend but don’t leave them unattended.

Your favorite festival is around the corner, and it’s going to be more memorable with a baby by your side. Don’t forget to involve your baby in the celebrations and capture the sweet moments that you will be able to cherish for life. Are you excited for the festival of lights?
