Knowing who is going to pop out of your womb is interesting. A few folks would want to know the sex of the child, as they are suckers for perfection and planning. They want to plan everything from teeny weeny details to the really big ones. There are some who would want to experience the thrill and enjoy the suspense until the very last minute. Meanwhile, the entire family can play the guess game!
Also, there are variations in laws across countries. Indian laws ban sex determination to avoid female feticide, but in the US it is legal to reveal the gender.
But, the big question is, should we really get desperate to know whether it’s a boy or a girl? Imagine the joy you would have to keep guessing throughout your pregnancy and then get to know the gender of the baby when they come out into this world! Here we give you a few reasons why you can wait to find out your baby’s gender:
- Surprise element: It’s thrilling to hold the suspense until the last moment. Imagine the scene, you are pacing up and down the labor room frantically for hours, and then the nurse comes and tells you, “It’s a girl”, or “It’s a boy”. Isn’t it so extraordinary to live that moment in a Hollywood style?
- Grandmother’s tales: Instead of going for the 20th week ultrasound scan, try your grandmother’s methods to know the gender. Some of the old wives’ tales are fun to try out, such as the ring on the string, pregnancy glow, the position of the baby, cravings for sweet is girl and sour is boy, et al.
- It doesn’t matter: Boy or girl, you would love and care for them equally. Knowing the gender will not change anything, so it really doesn’t matter.
- Bet on it: You can place a bet on the baby’s sex, which would be fun and you can rake in some moolah or make some funds for diapers. All of this as long as the bet is fun and doesn’t get serious.
- Reduces disappointment: If you were hoping for a girl, but found out it’s a boy in the 18th week scan, you are sure to be a little disappointed about it. But when you put away the ‘gender-knowing’ thing till the time of the delivery, chances are that you will feel highly blessed to hold your little one in your hands irrespective of a boy or girl.
- Motivated: Pregnancy is pretty tiring, so not knowing the sex will keep you motivated till the ninth month of your pregnancy, or may be not, but it’s worth it.
- It’s a matter of choice: You are under no obligation to reveal the gender or throw a gender-revealing party. It’s a choice you make and stick to it. If you are tired of people asking you, “What’s the baby’s sex?”, let people know that they will have to wait till the d-day to know the gender.
- Useful baby shower gifts: If you reveal the gender, people might end up giving baby clothes and all those baby accessories which you will never use for your baby. Instead you might get gift cards, coupons, and other useful stuff which can be far better.
- Test of patience: This is the perfect time to test your patience. It seems as if you are waiting for eternity and get restless. Relax and introspect, and work on areas that you may believe will make an awesome parent.
Aren’t those reasons pretty thought worthy? In the end, when you hold your tiny one in your arms, your baby’s gender will be the last thing on your mind. You’d be more in love with your baby and forget about cliches. Your baby means the world to you, and everything else just fades away.
